  • Understanding Normal Force: How We Stay Grounded
The force that acts against gravity to keep you from sinking into solid ground when you stand is the normal force.

    Here's how it works:

    * Gravity: Pulls you downwards towards the Earth's center.

    * Solid Ground: The ground provides a rigid, unyielding surface.

    * Normal Force: The ground, in response to the pressure of your weight, pushes back on you with an equal and opposite force. This upward push is the normal force.

Think of it like this: When you stand, your body is trying to compress the ground. The ground, however, resists this compression, pushing back with a force equal to your weight. This "push back" is the normal force, and it balances out gravity, preventing you from sinking.
