  • Understanding the Reflection of Images in Water: A Physics Explanation
The image of a lion formed inside pond water is due to the phenomenon of reflection.

    Here's how it works:

    * Light from the lion travels towards the pond's surface.

    * When light encounters the boundary between air and water, it changes direction. This is called refraction.

    * Some of the light is reflected back into the air. The amount of light reflected depends on the angle of incidence and the difference in refractive indices between the two mediums.

    * The reflected light reaches our eyes, creating an image of the lion. This image appears to be inside the water because our brain interprets the light as having traveled in a straight line.

In summary, the image of the lion in the pond is not formed by the water itself, but by the reflection of light from the lion off the water's surface.
