* Solutions are homogeneous mixtures where one substance (the solute) dissolves completely into another substance (the solvent).
* Rock and soil are heterogeneous mixtures. This means they are made up of different components that are not evenly distributed. You can see the individual pieces of rock, sand, and other materials in soil.
Examples of solutions:
* Sugar dissolved in water
* Salt dissolved in water
* Air (a mixture of gases)
Key difference: In a solution, the solute disappears into the solvent and you can't easily separate them back out. In a heterogeneous mixture like rock and soil, the components remain distinct and can be separated.
