    * Radioactive Decay: This method utilizes the predictable decay of radioactive isotopes within rocks. Radioactive isotopes, like uranium, decay into stable isotopes, like lead, at a constant rate known as their half-life. By measuring the ratio of parent to daughter isotopes, scientists can calculate the time that has passed since the rock crystallized.

    * Carbon-14 Dating: This is a specialized form of radiometric dating used for organic materials (bones, wood, etc.) up to about 50,000 years old. It utilizes the decay of carbon-14, a radioactive isotope of carbon, into nitrogen-14.

    Here's a breakdown of the process of radiometric dating:

    1. Sample Collection: Scientists collect a sample of the rock they want to date.

    2. Lab Analysis: The sample is analyzed in a laboratory to measure the amounts of parent and daughter isotopes.

    3. Calculation: Using the known half-life of the radioactive isotope, scientists calculate the age of the rock.

    Important Note: The specific method used depends on the type of rock and its age. For example, carbon-14 dating is only useful for relatively young materials, while other methods can be used for much older rocks.
