  • Metamorphic Rocks: Formation, Types & Characteristics
    The rock that has been buried underground and pressed together is called metamorphic rock.

    Here's why:

    * Metamorphic means "changed form".

    * Metamorphic rocks are formed when existing rocks (igneous, sedimentary, or even other metamorphic rocks) are subjected to intense heat and pressure deep within the Earth's crust.

    * This process changes the rock's mineral composition, texture, and sometimes even its chemical composition.

    Examples of metamorphic rocks include:

    * Marble (formed from limestone)

    * Slate (formed from shale)

    * Quartzite (formed from sandstone)

    * Gneiss (formed from granite)
