    The longest river in northwestern Europe is the Rhine.

    While the Danube is longer overall, it flows through Central and Eastern Europe, not northwestern Europe. The Rhine, however, flows through the heart of northwestern Europe, passing through Switzerland, Germany, France, and the Netherlands.
