  • Soot: Understanding the Solid Product of Incomplete Combustion
The solid product released during the incomplete combustion of hydrocarbon fuels is soot.

    Here's why:

    * Incomplete combustion means there isn't enough oxygen to fully oxidize the fuel.

    * Instead of burning completely to carbon dioxide and water, some carbon atoms from the fuel don't fully oxidize.

    * These carbon atoms bond together to form small particles of carbon black, which is what we call soot.

Soot is a black, powdery substance that can be a health hazard and contribute to air pollution.
