  • Understanding Diatomic Atoms: Properties and Examples
    Diatomic atoms are elements that exist naturally as two atoms of the same element bonded together. Here are the seven common diatomic elements:

    * Hydrogen (H₂)

    * Nitrogen (N₂)

    * Oxygen (O₂)

    * Fluorine (F₂)

    * Chlorine (Cl₂)

    * Bromine (Br₂)

    * Iodine (I₂)

    A helpful mnemonic to remember these is "Have No Fear Of Ice Cold Beer".

    Remember, these elements are only diatomic in their gaseous state. For example, bromine and iodine can be liquids at room temperature, but they still exist as Br₂ and I₂ molecules.
