  • Ribosomes: The Protein Synthesis Powerhouses of the Cell
The organelle site within a cell where protein synthesis occurs is the ribosome.

    Here's why:

    * Ribosomes are the protein factories of the cell. They read the genetic code from messenger RNA (mRNA) and use it to assemble amino acids into polypeptide chains, which fold into functional proteins.

    * Ribosomes can be found in two locations:

    * Free ribosomes are found floating in the cytoplasm and produce proteins that will be used within the cell.

    * Bound ribosomes are attached to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and produce proteins that will be exported from the cell or used in other organelles.
