  • Chloroplasts: The Powerhouse of Plant Cells & Photosynthesis
Chloroplasts are the site of photosynthesis within a plant cell. They are responsible for:

    * Capturing light energy: Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll, a green pigment that absorbs sunlight.

    * Converting light energy into chemical energy: This energy is used to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose (sugar) and oxygen. This process is called photosynthesis.

In essence, chloroplasts are the plant cell's "solar panels," enabling them to harness the power of the sun to produce their own food.
