  • Deoxyribose vs. Ribose: Understanding the DNA Building Block
The molecule found in DNA but not RNA is deoxyribose.

    Here's why:

    * DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) contains deoxyribose sugar.

    * RNA (Ribonucleic acid) contains ribose sugar.

The only difference between these sugars is the presence of an oxygen atom on the 2' carbon in ribose, which is absent in deoxyribose. This difference accounts for the "deoxy" prefix in deoxyribose.
