  • Bryophytes: The Plant Group with Free-Living Sporophyte and Gametophyte
The group of plants where both the sporophyte and gametophyte are free-living is bryophytes.

    Here's why:

    * Bryophytes (mosses, liverworts, and hornworts) are non-vascular plants.

    * They have a dominant gametophyte generation, which is the green, leafy structure we typically think of as the moss plant.

    * The sporophyte generation is a short-lived stalk that grows out of the gametophyte and produces spores.

In contrast, in vascular plants (ferns, gymnosperms, and angiosperms), the sporophyte generation is dominant and the gametophyte generation is much reduced and dependent on the sporophyte.
