  • Louis Pasteur and the Germ Theory: Bacterial Colony Origins
    The scientist who hypothesized that a bacterial colony arises from a single cell is Louis Pasteur.

    While not the first to propose this idea, Pasteur's famous swan-neck flask experiment in the 1860s provided strong evidence against the prevailing theory of spontaneous generation and definitively demonstrated that bacteria originate from existing bacteria, not from non-living matter.
