  • RNA Building Blocks: Understanding Nucleotides & Their Components
    The building blocks of RNA are nucleotides.

    Each nucleotide is made up of three components:

    1. A phosphate group: This is a negatively charged group that gives RNA its acidic properties.

    2. A sugar: In RNA, the sugar is ribose.

    3. A nitrogenous base: There are four different nitrogenous bases in RNA:

    * Adenine (A)

    * Guanine (G)

    * Cytosine (C)

    * Uracil (U)

    These nucleotides are linked together in a chain, forming the backbone of the RNA molecule. The sequence of nitrogenous bases along this chain is what determines the specific function of the RNA molecule.
