  • The Curious Case of Nine Parts: Exploring Body Part Anatomy
This is a bit of a trick question! There are a few ways to answer it:

    * The human brain: While not technically divided into *nine* distinct parts, it is often discussed in terms of nine regions: frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, occipital lobe, limbic system, basal ganglia, thalamus, hypothalamus, and brainstem.

    * The human heart: While the heart has four chambers, it also has three layers: epicardium, myocardium, and endocardium. You could also consider the valves (mitral, tricuspid, aortic, and pulmonary) as parts, bringing the total to seven.

    * The human foot: You might consider the seven tarsal bones (calcaneus, talus, navicular, cuboid, and three cuneiforms), plus the metatarsals and phalanges, to make up a total of nine parts.

It all depends on how you define "parts" and which body system you're focusing on!
