  • Sirius: The Brightest Star in the Night Sky - Facts & Distance
The brightest star in the sky is Sirius, also known as the Dog Star. It is located in the constellation Canis Major.

However, it's important to note that:

    * Brightness is subjective: Sirius appears brightest to us because it's relatively close to Earth (8.6 light-years away). Other stars may be intrinsically brighter but much farther away.

    * We can't see all the stars: Some stars are obscured by dust and gas clouds in the Milky Way.

    * The Sun is actually the brightest object in the sky: While we don't usually think of the Sun as a star, it is the star closest to us and therefore appears much brighter than all other stars.
