  • Sun vs. Moon: Size Comparison & Why They Appear Similar
The Sun is much larger than the Moon.

    Here's a comparison:

    * Sun: A giant star, the center of our solar system. It's about 109 times wider than Earth and about 333,000 times more massive.

    * Moon: A natural satellite that orbits Earth. It's about 1/4 the size of Earth.

While the Moon appears larger in the sky, that's just an illusion caused by its proximity to Earth. The Sun is actually about 400 times farther away from us than the Moon, but it's so enormous that it still appears large in our sky.
