  • Nicolaus Copernicus and the Heliocentric Model: A 16th-Century Revolution
The person who proposed the circular orbits of planets around the sun in the 1500s was Nicolaus Copernicus.

He published his heliocentric model of the solar system in 1543 in his book "De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium" (On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres). Although his model was not perfect and later refined by others, it was a significant departure from the prevailing geocentric model of Ptolemy, which placed Earth at the center of the universe.
