  • Moon Phases: When is the Moon Least Visible?
You see less of the Moon during the waning phases.

    Here's a breakdown:

    * New Moon: The Moon is completely dark and invisible from Earth.

    * Waxing Crescent: A sliver of the Moon becomes visible, gradually getting larger.

    * First Quarter: Half of the Moon is illuminated.

    * Waxing Gibbous: More than half of the Moon is illuminated, growing closer to full.

    * Full Moon: The entire face of the Moon is illuminated.

    * Waning Gibbous: More than half of the Moon is illuminated, but it's shrinking.

    * Last Quarter: Half of the Moon is illuminated.

    * Waning Crescent: A sliver of the Moon remains visible, getting smaller until it disappears into the New Moon.

So, during the Waning Crescent and Waning Gibbous phases, you see less of the Moon.
