  • Understanding the Sun's Convection Zone: A Protective Layer
The layer that surrounds the radiation zone of the Sun is the convection zone.

    Here's why:

    * Radiation Zone: This is the inner layer where energy is transported outward through the absorption and re-emission of photons.

    * Convection Zone: This is the layer above the radiation zone. Here, the energy is transported by the movement of hot gas (plasma). This hot plasma rises, cools, and sinks in a continuous cycle, much like boiling water.

So, the convection zone acts as a "blanket" surrounding the radiation zone, carrying the energy generated in the core further out towards the Sun's surface.
