  • New Moon: When Does the Moon Disappear?
The phase of the moon that appears completely dark when observed from Earth is called the New Moon.

During this phase, the moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun, meaning its sunlit side faces away from us. We can't see any of its surface because it's not reflecting any sunlight back to Earth.
