  • Understanding the Mirrors of the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT)
The Large Binocular Telescope (LBT) uses two 8.4-meter primary mirrors. These are segmented mirrors, meaning they are made up of smaller hexagonal segments that fit together to form the overall mirror shape.

It's important to note that while the LBT has two large primary mirrors, it's not the same as using a single large mirror. Each primary mirror is used independently, and the light is combined later in the optical system.
