Sound on the Moon: Why Gunshots Are Silent
No sound can be produced on the moon because there is no atmosphere . Sound is a mechanical wave which needs particles or molecules to propagate. Therefore, a gun fired on the moon will not produce any sound, hence cannot be heard at all.
