  • NASA Video Reveals Stunning Visualization of Black Hole Consuming a Star
A new NASA video reveals what it might look like if a black hole swallowed a star. According to NASA, "Black holes are fascinating objects in space: they have enormous mass and gravity, bending light as it passes by, but are almost completely dark – a feature due to how their powerful gravitational pull swallows anything too close to its center, called an event horizon." It should be stated that NASA refers to supermassive black holes with mass equivalent to millions or even billions of suns. For instance, a popular theory has our solar system rotating around what is essentially a supermassive black hole. According to NASA:

Astronomers believe there is indeed such a monster lurking at the center of our own Milky Way. Sagittarius A* has been imaged numerous times using radio waves revealing fascinating jet-like flows of material. However, what would it look like if a hungry black hole were to take in an occasional snack or a small nearby star or another unfortunate object traveling nearby its cosmic jaws? That’s exactly what an international team of researchers, in partnership with NASA Goddard’s Scientific Visualization Studio, aims to showcase through a series of short, captivating new animations.
