  • NASA's Sky Crane: Revolutionizing Mars Rover Landings
    NASA s Curiosity rover landed on Mars in 2012 using a groundbreaking technology called the sky crane. This incredible feat changed how NASA explores the red planet and opened up new possibilities for future missions.

    Before Curiosity, NASA used parachutes and airbags to land its rovers on Mars. While these methods were successful they had limitations. Parachutes could only slow the rover down to a certain point and the impact of landing often damaged the delicate instruments onboard.

    The sky crane offered a more controlled and safer landing. It consisted of a rocket powered descent stage that carried Curiosity to the surface of Mars. Once the rover reached a predetermined altitude the sky crane lowered Curiosity on a long cable allowing the rover to gently touch down on the Martian soil.
