  • Yahoo History: A Decade of Acquisitions, Partnerships, and Transformation
    Yahoo's decade-long soap opera:

2008: Microsoft's acquisition bid fails, Yahoo signs partnership with Google.

2012: Yahoo acquires Tumblr for $1.1 billion.

    2013: Marissa Mayer becomes CEO.

2014: Yahoo begins to sell off non-core assets.

2015: Verizon acquires AOL, announces plans to merge with Yahoo.

2017: Verizon completes its acquisition of Yahoo, merges it with AOL to form Oath.

2018: Oath is renamed Verizon Media Group.

2021: Verizon Media Group is sold to Apollo Global Management for $5 billion.

    What's next for Yahoo?

Apollo Global Management has not yet announced its plans for Yahoo, but there are a few possibilities:

    * Yahoo could continue to operate as a standalone brand within Apollo's portfolio. This would allow Apollo to leverage Yahoo's existing user base and brand recognition to generate revenue.

    * Yahoo could be merged with another company. Apollo could choose to merge Yahoo with another media company in its portfolio, such as AOL, or with a company outside of its portfolio.

    * Yahoo could be sold to another company. Apollo could choose to sell Yahoo to another company, such as a private equity firm or a strategic acquirer.

The future of Yahoo is still uncertain, but the company has a long history and a strong brand, which could make it an attractive asset for any of these potential outcomes.
