In this video, we will show you how milk becomes cheese.
Step 1: Heating the milk
- First we need to heat the milk to a certain temperature. This can be done in a pot on the stove or in a microwave.
- The temperature will vary depending on the type of cheese you want to make, but it is typically between 86°F and 104°F.
Step 2: Adding culture
- Once the milk has reached the correct temperature, we add culture. This is a bacteria that helps to turn the milk into cheese.
- The type of culture you use will determine the flavor and texture of the cheese.
Step 3: Letting it sit
- After we've added the culture, we let the milk sit for a while. This allows the culture to work its magic and turn the milk into cheese curds.
- The amount of time you let it sit will vary depending on the type of cheese you are making.
Step 4: Cutting the curds
- Once the cheese has curdled, we cut the curds into small pieces. This helps to release the whey, which is the liquid part of the milk.
Step 5: Draining the whey
- The curds are then drained of whey, either by using a cheesecloth-lined colander or a cheese press.
Step 6: Salting
- The salted curds are then pressed into a mold and left to age for several weeks or months, depending on the type of cheese being made.
Step 7: Enjoy your cheese
- This cheese can be eaten fresh or aged for a richer more full flavor.
