  • Understanding Atmospheric Layers & Solar Radiation Absorption
The two layers of the atmosphere responsible for the majority of solar radiation absorption are:

    * Stratosphere: This layer contains the ozone layer, which absorbs most of the harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun.

    * Troposphere: This is the lowest layer of the atmosphere, where most weather occurs. While it absorbs less radiation than the stratosphere, it absorbs a significant amount of infrared radiation, which is responsible for the greenhouse effect.

While other layers like the thermosphere also absorb some radiation, the stratosphere and troposphere are the primary absorbers.
