  • Moon Orbit Duration: Sidereal vs. Synodic Months Explained
It takes the Moon approximately 27.3 days to orbit the Earth, a period known as the sidereal month.

However, it takes about 29.5 days for the Moon to complete a cycle of phases, which is known as the synodic month. This is because the Earth is also moving around the Sun, so the Moon needs to travel a bit further to catch up and appear in the same position relative to the Sun.
