  • Gravitational Force: Mass, Distance & Newton's Law Explained
    The gravitational force between two objects depends on:

    * The masses of the objects: The more massive the objects, the stronger the gravitational force between them. This means that the force is directly proportional to the product of the masses.

    * The distance between their centers: The closer the objects are, the stronger the gravitational force. The force is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the centers of the objects.

    This relationship is described by Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation:

    F = G * (m1 * m2) / r²

    Where:

    * F is the gravitational force

    * G is the gravitational constant (approximately 6.674 x 10⁻¹¹ N m²/kg²)

    * m1 and m2 are the masses of the two objects

    * r is the distance between the centers of the two objects

    In simpler terms:

    * Heavier objects pull on each other more strongly.

    * Objects closer together pull on each other more strongly.
