  • Velocity vs. Speed: Understanding Motion's Direction and Magnitude
The term that describes an object's speed and its direction is velocity.

    Here's why:

    * Speed tells us how fast an object is moving.

    * Direction tells us which way the object is moving.

Velocity combines both of these pieces of information.

    For example:

    * A car traveling at 60 miles per hour is its speed.

    * A car traveling at 60 miles per hour north is its velocity.
