  • Newton's First Law: Understanding Balanced Forces and Inertia
In order for an object not to move, the forces on it must all be balanced.

    This means:

    * Equal in magnitude: The forces must be of the same size or strength.

    * Opposite in direction: The forces must act in opposite directions.

When forces are balanced, they cancel each other out, resulting in a net force of zero. This means the object will remain at rest or continue moving at a constant velocity (Newton's First Law of Motion).
