  • Resultant of Parallel Forces: Direction and Calculation
Here's how to determine the direction of the resultant of three like parallel forces:

    Understanding "Like" Parallel Forces

    * Like forces mean they all act in the same direction (either all pushing or all pulling).

    * Parallel forces mean they act along parallel lines.

    Determining the Direction

The resultant force of three like parallel forces will always be:

    * In the same direction as the individual forces.

    Example:

Imagine three people pushing a box from the same side. Each person exerts a force parallel to the others. The combined effect (the resultant force) will be a larger force in the same direction as the individual pushes.

Important Note: The magnitude of the resultant force is the sum of the magnitudes of the individual forces.
