  • Comets: Understanding Icy Space Travelers
A speeding ice ball from space is called a comet.

    Here's why:

    * Composition: Comets are primarily composed of ice, dust, and frozen gases.

    * Orbit: They orbit the Sun in highly elliptical paths, which means they spend most of their time far away from the Sun but periodically come close.

    * Appearance: As a comet approaches the Sun, the heat causes the ice to vaporize, creating a bright coma (cloud of gas and dust) and often a tail that stretches away from the Sun.

So, while not technically a "ball" in the traditional sense, comets are the celestial bodies that best fit the description of a speeding ice ball from space.
