  • Understanding Static Friction and Fabric Movement
The force that makes it hard for fabric to start moving is called static friction.

    Here's why:

    * Friction is a force that opposes motion between two surfaces in contact.

    * Static friction is the specific type of friction that acts on objects at rest. It's the force that needs to be overcome to start the object moving.

When you try to pull a fabric, static friction is the force holding it still. Once you overcome the static friction, the fabric will start moving, and then you'll experience kinetic friction, which is the friction between surfaces that are already in motion.
