  • The History of Magnetism: Ancient Discoveries & Early Uses
It's impossible to say definitively who "found" magnets, as the knowledge of magnetism has been around for thousands of years. Here's what we know:

    * Ancient Greeks: The ancient Greeks were some of the earliest known civilizations to have knowledge of magnetism. They noticed the attraction between lodestone (a naturally occurring magnetic rock) and iron.

    * Ancient Chinese: The Chinese also discovered the properties of lodestone and used it for navigation as early as the 11th century BC. They developed the first compass, which was initially used for geomancy and later for navigation.

Therefore, it's more accurate to say that the knowledge of magnetism was discovered and developed gradually by different civilizations over a long period of time.

There's no single individual we can credit with "finding" magnets.
