* If an object is initially at rest, it will remain at rest.
* If an object is initially in motion, it will continue to move at the same speed and in the same direction.
In other words, balanced forces do not cause any acceleration or change in velocity. This can be understood by considering the following examples:
* A book resting on a table is at rest because the gravitational force pulling the book downward is balanced by the normal force exerted by the table pushing the book upward.
* A car moving at a constant speed on a straight road is in equilibrium because the forward force exerted by the car's engine is balanced by the frictional force exerted by the road.
In both of these examples, the net force acting on the object is zero, so the object's motion is not affected.
