  • Mass vs. Weight: Understanding the Difference & Gravity's Role
    Mass is a fundamental property of matter that measures the amount of matter in an object. It is usually measured in kilograms (kg). Mass does not change depending on gravity.

    Weight, on the other hand, is the force of gravity acting on an object. It is measured in newtons (N). Weight depends on both mass and gravity. The greater the mass of an object, the greater its weight. The stronger the gravitational field, the greater the weight of an object.

    So, while mass remains the same regardless of gravity, weight can change depending on the gravitational field. For example, an object would weigh less on the moon than it would on Earth, because the moon's gravitational field is weaker.
