  • Understanding p Orbitals: px, py, and pz Explained
The three orbitals in a p sublevel are:

    - px orbital: This orbital has its electron density concentrated along the x-axis.

    - py orbital: This orbital has its electron density concentrated along the y-axis.

    - pz orbital: This orbital has its electron density concentrated along the z-axis.

The px, py, and pz orbitals are all dumbbell-shaped, with two lobes of electron density on either side of the nucleus. The lobes of the px orbital are oriented along the x-axis, the lobes of the py orbital are oriented along the y-axis, and the lobes of the pz orbital are oriented along the z-axis.
