  • Understanding Land Breezes: Causes & How They Form
A land breeze is caused by differences in temperature between the land and the sea during the night. Here's how it works:

    1. Cooling of land: During the night, the land cools down faster than the sea. This is because water has a higher specific heat capacity, meaning it takes more energy to raise its temperature.

    2. Air pressure difference: As the land cools, the air above it also cools and becomes denser. This cooler, denser air creates a high-pressure zone over the land. Conversely, the warmer air over the sea is less dense and creates a low-pressure zone.

    3. Wind flow: Air naturally flows from high pressure to low pressure. This means the cool, dense air over the land flows towards the warmer air over the sea, creating a land breeze.

In simple terms: During the night, the cool air from the land blows towards the warmer sea.
