  • Makemake: Dwarf Planet or Something Else? Understanding Its Composition
Makemake is not a planet, it's a dwarf planet.

Furthermore, it's not categorized as either gas, rocky, or terrestrial. Here's why:

    * Dwarf planets are celestial bodies that orbit the Sun, have enough gravity to be nearly round, but haven't cleared their orbital path of other objects.

    * Gas planets are composed primarily of hydrogen and helium, like Jupiter and Saturn.

    * Rocky planets, also known as terrestrial planets, are primarily composed of rock and metal, like Earth and Mars.

Makemake is thought to be a rocky body, covered in a layer of methane ice. It's too small and cold to hold onto a significant atmosphere like gas planets.

Therefore, Makemake doesn't fit neatly into any of the usual categories for planets. It's unique and falls into the category of dwarf planets.
