Asterosphere or asthenosphere is the layer of Earth's mantle that exhibits plastic-like properties. It lies directly beneath the lithosphere and its temperature ranges from about 1,300 to 1,650 degrees Celsius (2,372 to 2,994 degrees Fahrenheit). These temperatures are hot enough to cause the rocks within the asthenosphere to be partially molten, allowing them to flow and deform under stress.
