Rainforests get their name from the high amount of rainfall they receive. The term "rainforest" is used to describe forests that receive at least 100 inches (254 centimeters) of rain per year. Rainforests are found in tropical and subtropical regions around the world, and they are home to an incredible diversity of plants and animals.
