    There is no definitive evidence that a common childhood illness caused the extinction of the Neanderthals. While some evidence suggests Neanderthals may have suffered from a range of illnesses, including respiratory and gastrointestinal infections, conclusive proof directly linking these diseases to their extinction remains elusive.
