  • COVID-19 and Deer: What Hunters Need to Know
While there have been some rare cases of white-tailed deer testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19), the risk of transmission from deer to humans is considered extremely low. Hunters should continue to follow their typical precautions when handling wild game, such as wearing gloves and cooking meat thoroughly before consuming it. Additionally, it is important to practice good hygiene and social distancing measures to reduce the risk of potential transmission between humans and other animals. Hunters should not be overly concerned as long as reasonable precautions are taken when in contact with potential wildlife carriers of disease.
