  • Citizen Science and Biodiversity Conservation: A Realistic Approach
The notion that citizen science could directly or singularly change the course of the biodiversity crisis, including preventing extinctions or promoting biodiversity, may require cautious appraisal and context. Citizen science can undoubtedly generate valuable data, inform conservation measures, engage public stakeholders, and raise awareness but may not fully address all underlying causes of the extinction crisis. Conservation practices are multifaceted and necessitate collaboration among scientists, policy makers, land/resource managers, communities, and various organizations focused on conservation and stewardship.
