  • Earth's Rotation: Does it Affect Everyday Things?
The rotation of the Earth does not have a noticeable effect on toilets or baseball games.

    Toilets

The rotation of the Earth does not cause water to swirl in one direction or the other in toilets. The Coriolis effect, which is the deflection of moving objects due to the rotation of the Earth, is too weak to have any noticeable effect on the water in a toilet bowl.

    Baseball games

The rotation of the Earth does not cause baseballs to curve in one direction or the other. The Magnus effect, which is the deflection of a spinning object due to the flow of air around it, is much stronger than the Coriolis effect and is the main cause of baseballs curving.
