  • Step‑by‑Step: Entering Absolute Values on a Scientific Calculator

By Carter McBride Updated Aug 30, 2022

The absolute value of a number is its non‑negative magnitude. If you see a negative figure, simply drop the minus sign before inputting it into the calculator. Positive numbers can be entered unchanged.

    Step 1: Identify the Number

Locate the value you wish to input. For example, -40.

Step 2: Convert to Absolute Value

Remove the negative sign. -40 becomes 40.

    Step 3: Input the Value

Enter the digits on your calculator – press 4 then 0 for this example.
