  • Sea Mount Chains: Definition & Formation | Oceanography Explained
A compact group of underwater mountains is called a sea mount chain.

    Here's why:

    * Sea mounts are isolated underwater mountains that rise at least 1000 meters (3,281 feet) above the seafloor.

    * When these sea mounts are clustered together in a relatively close proximity, they form a chain.

These chains often form due to volcanic activity along tectonic plate boundaries or hotspots.
