  • Intrusive vs. Plutonic Rocks: Understanding the Difference
That's close, but not quite right! Intrusive rock is sometimes called plutonic rock.

    Here's why:

    * Intrusive rock forms when magma cools and solidifies beneath the Earth's surface.

    * Plutonic rock is a type of igneous rock that is specifically formed from magma that cools slowly underground.

So, while "plutonic" is a more specific term for a certain type of intrusive rock, it's often used interchangeably with "intrusive" in casual conversation.
